Overview

Built in the 1920s by the French colonial government, Anfa Airport was the primary airport for Casablanca until the United States Air Force closed its base at Nouasseur in 1959. Nouasseur Air Base was renamed Mohammed V International Airport and has been expanded over the years to handle large jet aircraft and has become Casablanca's primary airport.

Anfa airport, restricted by the urban growth around it, primarily serves local air traffic.

World War II

During the war, Anfa Airport was taken over by the Vichy French government and used as an airport as well as an air base for the Vichy French Air Force (French: Armée de l'Air de Vichy) with its limited aircraft allowed by the Armistice with Nazi Germany. It was also used by Lufthansa and German military transports. It was immortalized in the fictional 1942 film Casablanca

Anfa Airport was one of the primary Allied objectives during Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa and was seized in the initial landings in the Casablanca area. After its capture by Allied forces, it functioned as an Allied military airfield throughout the remainder of the war, supporting the United States Army during the North African Campaign, and also as an Air Transport Command cargo hub on the North African Route. It also served as a transit point for United States Army Air Force aircraft heading to England as part of Eighth Air Force as well as Twelfth and Fifteenth Air Forces in the Mediterranean Theater as part of the southern air transport route from the United States via Brazil and Dakar. It was returned to civilian control in late 1945.

RAM libère ses terrains à Casa-Anfa

«Nous sommes très heureux puisqu'on est la première entité à libérer ses terrains et puisqu'on participe à cet immense projet lancé par sa Majesté  le Roi Mohammed VI, ce projet présente pour nous un vrai atout, puisqu'on est le premier opérateur à libérer ces espaces pour  développer la zone d'Anfa», c'est avec ces mots que le président de RAM vient de libère officiellement 10 des 17 hectares qu'elle occupait pour le projet d'aménagement urbain de la zone Casa-Anfa. Le reste est actuellement occupé par le siège de RAM , il est racheté auprès de l'Agence d'urbanisation et de développement d'Anfa pour un montant avoisinant les 90 millions de DH.

C'est ainsi qu'avant le 31 décembre 2007 ,la compagnie a déménagé la totalité des locaux de l'aérogare Casa-Anfa. Pour RAM Academy et Casa aéro, qui utilisent des équipements lourds, seront transférées à Nouacer, dès l'achèvement des travaux de construction des nouveaux locaux pour fin 2008.
L'École nationale de pilotes de ligne est maintenant installée à l'aéroport de Benslimane. Une enveloppe de 170 millions de DH a été consacrée à la construction de la nouvelle école. Trois des filiales de RAM, soit Atlas Hospitality, Atlas On Line et Amadeus Maroc, ont, quant à elles, élu domicile au Centre d'exposition de l'Office des changes, à Casablanca.
